Women's Vasque Scree Mid UD

I use these boots when I'm hiking or working outdoors. I spent some time working in northern California off-trail, so these boots have been exposed to uneven, rocky surfaces. This boot is sturdy and gives great ankle support. The soles of the shoe are firm so that you can easily walk on rocky surfaces and maintain comfort. I wear a good pair of hiking socks and my feet stay warm without getting sweaty. There really was no break-in period for these boots; they were pretty much ready-made. I have never gotten a blister from these boots either. If I had to give drawbacks about this boot, I would say that it might not be the best boot for people with wide feet as the sizes run somewhat narrow. Also, I hiked in snow with these boots and slipped around a bit, but they grip well on rain-soaked rock. Bottom line: comfortable!

I've been looking for a hiking boot that would replace my Five-Ten Carver's, a heavy approach shoe with sticky rubber soles but cut low with no ankle support. I had tried all the rock climbing shoe companies, but no luck. The Vibram-soled boots that claim to be grippy just aren't, or at least I couldn't find one that worked. I finally settled on the Vasque Scree because of the Stealth brand rubber role...and I'm super-impressed! It really grips like my Five-Ten's. For those who like steep slab and do a lot of rock-hopping while hiking, this is a great boot. I would have liked the rubber to continue along the bottom edge of the shoe--that would have made these perfect.

I bought these a half size bigger than I normally wear, that seems to be a good choice. It accommodates a mid to heavy sock and helps with swelling feet during hiking. Wore these hiking on a level to rocky terrain. They were comfortable, no break-in was necessary and I am happy with my choice. I haven't been able to test the waterproof durability. They prevented me from hurting my ankles on rocks and roots. They were warm and helped the bottom of my feet from getting sore. So far so good.

I bought these boots one day before my hike. I knew the trip was going to be a challenge. The challenge was more than I had expected. The terrain was mostly a rock trail, steep, and stair stepping. The outside temps were between 80-92 degrees. We did an average of 9 miles a day over a 3 day period with no extra day to rest our feet. I must add that I was wearing a 30-35 lb bag on my back for the 3 day excursion. I had to use some moleskin on day 2 on my toes, but otherwise my feet were in exceptional shape. For never have broken in the boots, and the type of hike we did I was very impressed. Final conclusion - one small blister on my big toe, and black and blue nail beds on my little toes, sounds bad.. but they passed my test!
