Women's The North Face Hedgehog III

Got the older version of these shoes a few years ago for a trip. Have used these for so many things since then and they are still going strong. The traction and gore-tex insulation is great for rain/cold weather and snowy conditions, but also helps on hikes. It's also comfortable enough to wear on cross-country runs. If you're looking to use this for heavy hiking or backcountry, may not be the shoe for you--it does not have any ankle support. But if you just need an all around shoe for all kinds of casual adventures, this is it. Bottom line versatile and more than worth the money.

I tried on one pair and the tongue was stiff and I had to send it back. When I received the second pair, it was really comfortable. I have a narrow heel and a wide foot. It makes buying shoes difficult. These shoes were perfect except if you wear orthotics. Because of the narrow toe box, I wear my half orthotics that don't go into the toe box.

Being a zookeeper I'm always on my feet, walking on concrete and asphalt, dirt rocks etc...and usually hosing something. I was addicted to the comfort and no breaking time of Merrells for several years (the older styles like the Moab and ventilator). I was noticing that they would last about one season and I thought that was normal for what I'm doing with them. When the basic body of Merrells changed, I shopped around. I ended up with the Hedgehog...and after 2.5 seasons I'm ready to buy another pair. My feet put up with use and abuse. these shoes feel great for 9 hours and several miles a day!

I've done many hikes in these shoes and they are GREAT!! Hikes from 3 miles to 20 miles these shoes hold up great! Water resistance is great. Everyone else looks for the driest way around a small stream, etc....I know I can walk right through and not have to worry about wet feet for the rest of the hike. No break in time is the best. I went on a 10 mile hike the day after getting these...No blisters or moleskin for me! Simply the best hiking shoes I have ever owned!

I love my Asolo Stynger GTX hiking boots, however these are so heavy and since I don't really need ankle support, I usually wear my North Face Hedgehogs. These are lightweight, surprisingly waterproof up to the topline, durable, have superior traction, and are quick drying. My feet were comfortable even after an 7 hour strenuous hike in these shoes!

I found the shoe to fit in all aspects but it took a little breaking in.
