Men's Keen Targhee II

I bought a pair of these shoes two and a half years ago and walked an average of 35 miles a week in them, on flat dry ground, wet sand, and on hikes in woods and mountains, and they're still going strong. I bought each of my two sons a pair, and they're still wearing theirs, too. I ran 5 miles in them this summer one Sunday (after they passed the 2-year-old mark) and they were as comfy as good running shoes. No complaints, nothing but praise!

First off, I have really difficult feet. I wear custom insoles, so I need a shoe with a lot of volume. The other Keen shoes and sandals I own fit the bill perfectly, but I just couldn't get these shoes to fit comfortably. In my experience all Keen shoes run small. These are no exception. I buy all Keen shoes a 1/2 size larger than what I normally wear and the Targhee IIs were still just a tad small. I possibly could have used them, but in my experience, it's always better when you're dealing with footwear to go bigger versus smaller. At that size the shoes would not have allowed any room for my feet to swell after a long hike. I decided to send them back and get a full size larger than what I would normally wear. These were much better, but I just couldn't get the laces cranked down hard enough to keep my heels from slipping. Something that would certainly cause hot spots and blisters on long ascents. I love Keen footwear and I'm just bummed that I couldn't get these to work. On a more positive side, I found them to be surprisingly light. Their appearance makes them look like they would weigh much more than they actually do. They were also very stiff and supportive. Much more so than other light hikers I've tried. This may, or may not be a plus for some people. I personally like that feature in a shoe. They also appeared to be very well built. I would expect these shoes to log on many miles before any significant signs of wear. The tongue was well padded and I didn't notice any pinching even when really cranking down the laces. I can't speak to the waterproofness of these shoes as I didn't try them in any wet environments. The Event liner did make them rather warm, but not anymore so than any other Gore-Tex lined shoe I've worn. If you don't have odd shaped feet like I do these shoes will probably work for you like a champ.

This shoe was purchased after trying on many other brands. I tend to be a pronator and could not find a shoe that provided enough support. The Keen hiker seemed to correct my stride quite well. They are also very comfortable - almost like wearing a slipper. The flip side to this was they seemed to require more control to avoid a 'clunky' walk - you almost feel like a platapus I have heard comments that this shoe had a shorter lifespan and and the rubber sole is prone to shrinking. I have been wearing mine for 10 months quite regularly and have not had issue.

Happy with my purchase. I tend to need a wide, but the toe box on these shoes fits great in medium. Bought several other styles of Keen shoes based on my experience with these.

I bought these with some moderate expectations. I wear these everyday with orthotics and they do squeak a little. They have stood up to 4 months of use. I have been in wet grass and rain and these have stayed dry. I have hiked 15 miles so far and the they still look good. Waiting to see how they work in the winter conditions.

Shoes were purchased as a gift for my Keen wearing husband! For those of you who wear the Keen sandal and are leery of the shoe... get a pair! He loves them. What does he love? The arch support. He is on his feet most of the day and walking at that. He has had heel problems in the past and Keens seem to be the only shoe that has remedied the discomfort.
